Walkabout for Change
Story
In September this year my wife, Margaret, and I will embark on an eight-day challenge to walk the Larapinta Trail along the MacDonnell Ranges to raise funds for and promote the work of Indigenous Community Volunteers (ICV).
After 20 years as CEO of Australian Volunteers International (AVI) I became involved in the development of Indigenous Community Volunteers, an organisation that I believe has huge potential to make a difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
All the funds we raise will go to ICV, an organisation that cares deeply about the situation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. ICV is not about charity or about welfare but works in partnership with Indigenous people to develop their own capacity to take responsibility for themselves.
ICV works with communities to build on local strengths and knowledge. They work on projects that have been identified as part of a community’s own vision for their future, improving quality of life, health, social and economic wellbeing and inclusion within Australian society.
Margaret and I, both in our 70s, are excited to accept this challenge to walk the trail and would love you to support us by becoming one of our sponsors.
To do this simply go to the donation button on this page. All donations are tax deductible
We also hope you might take the opportunity to learn more about the work of ICV and consider becoming a supporter yourself, as well as make the organisation known among your friends and colleagues.
Kindest regards
Bill and Margaret Armstrong
Activity
COMMUNITY FIRST DEVELOPMENT LIMITED
Community First Development is a registered charity and non-profit organisation working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve quality of life, wellbeing and social inclusion. Our vision is for an Australia where all Australians live in harmony and where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people share the same rights, respect and access to opportunities and rewards, and where their culture is valued and recognised as an asset to Australian society. Community First Development is invited by communities to help them overcome disadvantage. Our role is to support communities with skills and resources not normally available to them. We do this with the enthusiasm and dedication of volunteers from all walks of life, from child care to construction, medicine to manufacturing, and gardening to grant-writing.
